Love to inspire

The best ideas rarely come from looking at design. I’m always moved by other forms of creativity. Some things carry so much personality and emotion that they stop me in my tracks. That could be architecture, music, art or food. But I also see beauty in things that weren’t made to be beautiful. Happy accidents.

Inspiration is everywhere, as long as you’re paying attention.

GLUE GARTEN

During the final weekend of GLUE amsterdam connected by design (19–20 September), I will transform my estate into GLUE Garten – a unique open-air gallery celebrating design and art.GLUE Garten brings together a selection of designers and artists presenting their latest design objects, installations, and artworks in an inspiring outdoor setting.

Must visit

Very inspiring visit to Verbeke Foundation with a personal tour by founder Geert Verbeke.

PARTY TIME

There’s nothing quite like a live performance where everyone is going wild.

Sculptures

A visit to the Barbara Hepworth Museum in Cornwall. Stunning sculptures and a fascinating insight into how she worked in her studio.

Stonehenge

Made a stop at Stonehenge while travelling through the UK. I couldn’t help but jump for joy.

My Audi

Why buy a new car when you can personalize your own with a custom wrap.

Calm down

There’s something magical about quietly paddling through the landscape behind my studio, especially when you’re gliding across the water on a SUP designed by graffiti artist Wotto.

RED DOT again

Super happy to receive another Red Dot, this time for the Infiny office chair, designed for NO-EM.

Open your eyes

Some see an old, weathered container. I see a beautiful composition.

DESIGN DISTRICT

At this interior design fair in the beautiful Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam, I presented My Creative Living Room giving a glimpse into my studio, showcasing sketches, models, and concepts.

FLEA

An amazing concert by the bassist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who also makes funky jazz and plays the trumpet.

Amalfi

What an incredible coastline. A beautiful walk with stunning views and glimpses of the sea.

La dolce vita

Such a fun and delicious experience in Italy — taking a cooking workshop and preparing a selection of wonderful dishes with fresh, local ingredients.

Urban

Many people hate it, but when graffiti becomes part of the streetscape, like in Naples, I think it can really add something. Not everything has to be neat and polished all the time.

MASTERLY

Together with NO-EM and ByBorre, we created a compact and colorful presentation at Masterly during Milan Design Week 2026 to show the circular office chair Infinity.

Sketching

Even on vacation, I can’t resist making a little sketch now and then.

Making models

I always find it incredibly valuable to make models during the design process. They provide great insight into form and proportions, and besides, they’re simply fun to make.

HENDI at Host

At the world’s largest hospitality trade show Host, HENDI presented a beautiful display featuring many of my designs. Proud of this great collaboration!

Food addict

There’s nothing quite like going to a great restaurant and letting yourself be spoiled. A feast for the eyes and a delight for the taste buds.

Morcheeba

What an incredible voice the singer of Morcheeba has. Smooth, laid-back grooves to get lost in at Paradiso.

Bizar

What a strange city Dubai is. Outside, you’re melting in 45-degree heat, surrounded by over-the-top buildings. Inside your are frozen by airconditioning.

Bird lover

I’ve always loved drawing birds, ever since I was a child. During my holiday in Zambia, I picked it up again, sketching some of the birds I spotted there. Still such a joy to do!

African beauty

A snapshot taken from a moving car in an African village turned out to look almost like a surrealist painting. Everything comes together — the clothing, people, colors, and contrasts creating a wonderful composition.

Malawi sunseet

Right in the middle of Malawi lies this beautiful lake with a small island. Every evening, there’s an incredible sunset, with the island taking center stage.

JUSTICE

Incredibly good music combined with an overwhelming light show.

Flower garden

The highly successful Flower coat rack also works beautifully to brighten up my garden.

Color selection

Choosing a well-balanced color collection helps position a product clearly in the market. Selecting fabrics for NO-EM.

Juicy sketch

For me, sketching is still the best way to quickly put my ideas on paper. These sketches often form the basis for the final design.

Let it snow

It’s great we’re capable of creating our own weather, but these huge snow cannons were completely useless during this snowstorm.

Happy Buildings

Travelling through Mozambique, I really liked the Art Deco architecture in combination with the lovely people and good weather.

Out of the box

This wooden shed is a toilet somewhere in the desert of Egypt. A perfect place to have some privacy. I especially liked the handwritten sign on the box.

Part of history

Geesa celebrated it’s 130th birthday. Very nice to be part of this history and of their collection of high quality bathroom accessories.

Star served

The iconic beer fountain I designed for Heineken is the star of this Heineken commercial.

Road to nowhere

A journey is often more interesting than the destination. This road is on the Mont Ventoux, starting off between the trees and slowly changing into rough, rocky surrounding with amazing views.

Beach

Simple, functional and fun. This car was carried around the beach, delivering cold drinks and ice creams. Who could resist?

Milan 2013: enjoy everyday design

A gallery packed with my most iconic designs, presented to thousands of visitors from all over the world. They all left with a smile on their face.

Ambassador DDW

Very proud that I was chosen to be ambassador Dutch Design Week 2012. An indication that people like what I’m doing – and a big motivation to continue designing products for everyday use

Rothko

One of my favourite artists. His paintings are so impressive and beautiful that one simply can’t describe it in words. Art doing what it should do.

Lowlands

Just bought my tickets for the Lowlands festival again. This year starring my all-time favourite Underworld! Music designed to please the ears.

Be more tea

The iconic glass I designed for Lipton was first used in a commercial starring the Muppets. Really funny to see Kermit using my design! The glass was part of a complete new range of merchandise I created for Lipton and is now being introduced worldwide.
